The Tullahoma Wildcats put a positive spin on the end of the first half of the 2009-2010 season with a convincing 58-31 win over Community on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at the Eagleville Classic Tournament in Eagleville.
Tullahoma (1-1, 8-5) opened the tournament with a disappointing 60-55 overtime loss to the host team on Monday, Dec. 28.
Tullahoma will return to regular season action with a trip to Lewisburg to take on Marshall Co. on Tuesday, Jan. 5. District 8-AAA play resumes on Friday, Jan. 8, with Lawrence Co. visiting the THS gym on Jackson St. Lawrence Co. leads the district with a 13-1 overall record and a 2-0 district mark.
The 'Cats came out a little sluggish against Community (2-9), leading by only one at the end of the first quarter 12-11. The lead was extended 27-20 by halftime as Tullahoma's defense began to clamp down on the Vikings.
Tullahoma flexed its muscles in the second half, outscoring Community 31-11 after the intermission. Geoffrey McGowan led a balanced THS scoring attack with 12 points, joined in double figures by Chad Rusk and Mike Passarello with 11 points each. Jared Davis added eight, Jordan Milleville and Allen Starks had five, and Matt Passarello and Matt Ledbetter added three each.
Against Eagleville (9-3) the Wildcats came out of the gate with a cold shooting hand after two weeks since their previous game, a thrilling final second 42-41 win over Coffee Co. back on Dec. 15.
Tullahoma trailed 14-4 after one quarter and 31-19 at halftime. However, after the break the Wildcats came out much more fluid on offense and began to chip away at the Eagleville lead.
The Wildcats outscored the home team 17-8 in the third quarter and 12-9 in the fourth to send the game into overtime. However, in the extra period the hosts sank 10 free throws to ice the win.
Mike Passarello led Tullahoma with 12 points, joined in double figures by McGowan and Matt Passarello with 11 each and Rusk with 10. Milleville added five, Starks had four and Davis added two. Kevin Brown and Jonathan Porter led Eagleville with 13 points each. |
